More than one year since the last news... I have to post something. I'm now working by RUAG Electronics for almost 6 months. I'm doing Java development with Eclipse, OSGi, JAXB and some other Java-related technologies. I'm now living in my own flat in Zürich.
I'm still working on Fail2ban. I have done lots of development in the 0.7 branch and 0.8 should soon come out. This is a complete rewrite with a lot of new features like multi-threading, client-server, auto-detection of date format, etc. I'm still a Gentoo user. However, I tried Ubuntu a few weeks ago and use it on my parents laptop. I find it quicker to update and maintain. |

I bought a new USB flash drive. It is a 256MB, USB 2.0, cheap (30 CHF) and small one. I wanted to keep my SSH and GnuPG keys on it for security and practical reasons. I also installed a small "liveCD" Linux distribution in order to be able to boot a recovery system on almost every (new) computers.
I tried Damn Small Linux which seems to be quite popular. It is Debian (Knoppix) based and small enough (about 50MB) to stay on every USB flash drive. However, I use Slax, a Slackware based distribution. I installed Slax Popcorn Edition which is about 120MB.
I installed Slax on an ext2 filesystem and make it bootable with extlinux. I created a script to do all the step from downloading to making the flash drive bootable.

Today I upgraded my website to Joomla! which is a "rebranding effort" and not a fork of Mambo. Version 1.0.3 is quite similar to Mambo 4.5.2.3 and the update is quite painless.
I also upgraded my server with PHP 5 and MySQL 4.1. Not all Joomla!/Mambo components and modules seem to be compatible with PHP 5 yet. I corrected one problem in DocMan and hope you will not meet other issues while surfing on this website. |
